If you are thinking of living "off the grid" you've in all likelihood investigated purchasing solar panels or a wind-mill. The problem is that it's just too expensive
to buy enough solar panels or a big enough aerogenerator without breaking the bank.
We've been there. At the time when we originaly began living off grid we hardly made adequate income to build our own house.
How were we going to power our home?
We were talking to our good friend Mike Shepherd and he told us that it's pretty simple to build a wind generators. He assured us that there are quite a lot of designs accessible online to download.
Big mistake!
We didn't understand any of the designs that we found online. It always appeared that the writer merely needed to prove to the world that he was the most
intelligent individual in existents. We blew more than $100 on designs before decided to do a lot of research then build our own. We spent about 6 months searching before perfecting our wind-mill, and with a good breeze it will yield more than 1400 watts of power.
We then chose to arrange the hard learned facts into simple plans so that even the non-technically inclined could build their own windmill.
The Home made windmill Challenge

* it has to generate over 1000 watts of electicity
* less than 100 dollars to build
* original blueprint for the home-made windmill
* uses only readily accessible material
* must be effortless to build and set up
* Rugged enough to hold up to the tough Mid west winds
* and it has to have a nice appearence
We have shown these designs to Oscar and he said he wish that we'd shown him these plans before! He experienced the same problems that we had. he did not understand most of the plans that he came acrossed neither.
Our newly built wind generators now sits on top of the rebuilt TV tower spinning away producing power for our home. Mail us the pics from your finished project and we'll post them to our website!
We have had lots of entertainment building a wind generators and we want to share that fun with you. We could have dropped 1000s on a commercial wind generator but why?
