Truck Driving

Truck Driving

Looking for a job? Why not try truck driving?

Get through the basics first then read on through for additional information on truck driving.

You need to have first and foremost a driver’s license and must be over 18 years or 21 years of age or even 25 years old in some cases. You can also check with the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) for the proper age in truck driving. Aside from these basic requirements, listed below are other qualifications to be a truck driver.

Male or female. It does not have to be gender specific. The workload is just the same for both individuals.

Fluent in the English language. This is because many companies will not let anybody enter their premises to one who cannot understand warning signs and simple directions in the English language.

Patient. This is to avoid stupidity due to inexperience when driving around the country.

Ability to work early mornings or late evenings without complaints regarding health reasons like body aches or cramps and other minor illnesses.

If you qualify to the above requirements, then you can start as a driver’s assistant whose duties include sitting in the cab, helping to unload stuffs and even blocking traffic when the driver is reversing the truck. If you show some promise, the company may even pay for your training as a truck driver. You can then enroll in a truck driving school where the school can teach you the ins and outs of handling different trucks that you may encounter.

Having a license can also land you driving jobs anywhere your license can be considered valid. But you can buy your own truck and set up your own transport company too. You can do this though when you have enough experience of the trucking business.

Aside from all of these, there will always be jobs for truck drivers in any economy in the country and around the world where the end users are only reachable by road transport. This is through truck owners as well as operators who seek out loads to carry in their trucks.

Browsing through the internet, you can also find load brokers who can assist you on moving loads from one part of the country to another (that is if you need one). For job opportunities, the internet can also help you find trucking companies in need of drivers especially specialist truck driving agencies, in your area and outside your area. Besides these, you will be able to land any job as a truck driver if your license covers a wide range of trucks. This is also true if you are prepared to travel long distances or even consider night driving.

Through all these, just remember that as a truck driver, you are into driving on either early mornings or late nights, you get to eat in lots of fast foods when driving around the country and you get little or no exercise at all. Have fun.
